Amazon Dedicates an Entire Page for Make in India Products in US and India

Ever since its foray into the Indian market, Amazon is trying to take over the Indian e-commerce market. After making some drastic changes in its logistics and the operations end, Amazon has now dedicated its main page for the Indian products as part of the ongoing Make in India week, which is a showcase of sorts by the Indian government.

Amazon says that in a bid to extend support for the Make in India products, they will be displayed prominently on the website under the Make in India store, thus ensuring better visibility. The products are being offered by more than 6000 Indian manufacturers and will be spread across categories including tapestry, toys, Indian handicrafts, Ayurveda accessories and fashion.
Interestingly, Amazon US will also be showcasing some of the Indian manufactured products prominently on its site under a dedicated store page. The product categories include Indian handicrafts, Grocery and Gourmet, Herbal Products, fashion, handlooms and more.
This is what Amit Agarwal, VP and Country Head Amazon India had to say
The Amazon platform, with innovations such as Easy ship, Fulfilment by Amazon and Global Selling, can serve as a strong enabler for Indian manufactures, artisans and businesses to reach customers not only in India but also across the globe. We are very excited to support the Make in India week with several initiatives on both Amazon.in and Amazon.com. Make in India connects with our mission to transform how India buys and sells and we are thrilled that it will provide further impetus to Indian manufacturing allowing customers globally to access Indian innovations and creations.
That being said, it keeps us wondering why Amazon has not included smartphones and other Make in India gadgets, the products seem to be prominently from the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and apparels category. Amazon.in had recently overtaken Flipkart as the most frequently visited site and they have also introduced grocery delivery in select cities. Apart from strengthening the logistics and the operations, the trick for Amazon is to stay relevant to the Indian market, such campaigns are something that might help them achieve this in the long run.
